Endangered

4–9 May, 2012 The butoh performance Endangered invite to the temple still time, where different room times intertwined. A quiet time, but filled with anticipation. In the stillness hovers questions. Is epochs elapsed, cultures and canceled at the moment? Through butoh the body charged expressions explored man’s place and time, as a movement in and out.
In Frauke works intertwine the various scenic elements, costumes, set design, lighting and music to enhance the butoh body’s transformation and its aesthetic dimension. The artistic process is based on an exploration of organic materials, which state, essence, character and quality form the basis for creation. During the process, the team conducted a research trip to Gotland, where they visited the Department of Archaeology and Osteology, Gotland University. The artists have also collaborated with the Gothenburg Natural History Museum and the museum.

Frauke (stage name of Caroline Lundblad) is based in Gothenburg, but also working internationally. She has made several guest appearances in South Africa where she has been acclaimed as a choreographer and dancer. In 2010 and 2011, she received awards from The Standard Bank Ovation Award and the Sunday Independent for her participation at the Dance Umbrella in Johannesburg and the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, South Africa. Frauke was educated at the Laban Centre in London and trained in the Japanese postwar Ankoku Butoh dance (dance of darkness) with many years of studies in Japan and Sweden. Productions in the selection: Void (2008), Undoing (2010), Asymptote (2010), Ama no gawa (2010).
